Raven Chacon at City of Albuquerque

Tiguex, XVII – Old Town 09-27-2025

Raven Chacon "Tiguex", XVII – Old Town (Procession II), composed with A Hawk and a Hacksaw: As many musicians and audience who have participated in the day gather at a park near the oldest part of the city. There should be at least four drummers in this group who begin the procession by performing the rhythms notated in the score map. As the procession moves toward Old Town, more musicians join in at key places, thereby changing the underlying fundamental notes of the mode or chordal harmony. Each section of instruments has featured moments, while the others either rest or accompany. Find one site of respect along the way, where the ensemble diminuates to a near silence. A quiet performance occurs here for some time before a bell signals the group to move on to Old Town Plaza. The procession crescendos as it approaches the center of the plaza, then slowly fades again in a symmetrical arc of volume. At the end, only bird calls are audible
